With Beyonce’s recent snub at the CMA Awards, country music veteran Luke Bryan weighed in, giving his take on why the pop singer came up empty on a big night for country music.
Beyonce Flopped Hard At The Recent CMA Awards
Crossing over into country music seems to be the in thing to do for a lot of artists from other genres. It has worked out well for Aaron Lewis, Darius Rucker, and even Post Malone. While Beyonce may be a big draw when it comes to her forte of music, things have not translated as well with her foray into the country music space.
At the most recent CMA Awards, the pop star received no nominations, despite releasing her album, Cowboy Carter. Beyonce previously spoke out about not being accepted by the country community. For anyone looking for it, this recent CMA snub added more fuel to that fire. However, there may be more to it than meets the eye.
Luke Bryan Weighs In On Beyonce CMA Snub
Bryan recently gave his take on why Beyonce was essentially shut out of the CMA’s. Bryan knows a thing or two about racking up awards in this genre. So, he is the ideal person to shed light on this issue. With that in mind, he had plenty to say about it.
Luke Bryan said: “It’s a tricky question because, obviously, Beyoncé made a country album and Beyoncé has a lot of fans out there that have her back. And if she doesn’t get something they want, man, they come at you, as fans should do.”
Continuing on, Bryan alluded to the fact that just because someone makes a country album, that does not automatically guarantee that they will secure nominations, even himself. Bryan has been at the top of the genre for decades, but even he does not expect to secure nominations just because he releases something new.
Bryan added: “Just because she made one … just ’cause I make one, I don’t get any nominations.”
Bryan’s Advice For Beyonce Moving Forward
The way Luke Bryan sees it, in order to make a country album and be successful with fans of the genre, you have to do more than just go into the studio and switch genres. According to Bryan, you also have to be about it and make an effort to come into that world.
Bryan said: “Everybody loved that Beyoncé made a country album. Nobody’s mad about it. But where things get a little tricky — if you’re gonna make country albums, come into our world and be country with us a little bit.”
Luke Bryan continued: “Like, Beyoncé can do exactly what she wants to. She’s probably the biggest star in music. But come to an award show and high-five us and have fun and get in the family, too. And I’m not saying she didn’t do that … but country music is a lot about family.”
