Over the years, Lainey Wilson has managed to perform at some of the biggest venues in the world for country music. From the Grand Ole Opry to the 2024 CMT Music Awards, the singer has been seen by hundreds of thousands of people. Her next show, though, might be for her biggest audience yet. Read on to find out about her new gig.

Lainey Wilson’s NFL Show

Lainey recently announced that she will be performing at Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Kickoff performance for the Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants Thanksgiving game.

She shared the reveal on social media in a video with some of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders. Wilson even joined in for the cheer squad’s signature kick line.

“You might know me for my bell-bottoms, but I want to be known for bell-ringing too,” the country singer quipped in the clip.

Lainey also teased that a special guest will be joining her in the Thanksgiving performance. She’s worked with tons of fellow artists, so there’s no telling who it is.

It’s unclear whether or not she will be dropping hints of who it will be, or if she will leave it as a dramatic surprise.

Her Football Connections

It’s not a shock that Lainey has been picked for the show, given how much football is woven into her career and personal life.

For starters, she is one of the performers behind the official College GameDay theme song. Wilson collaborated with both Darius Rucker and The Cadillac Three for the hit single. Now every time that a college football game airs on TV, Lainey’s voice is heard loud and clear.

Wilson’s love life also has a football connection. She is in a relationship with Devlin “Duck” Hodges, who just so happens to be a former NFL star.

Specifically, Hodges used to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Los Angeles Rams before migrating over to the Canadian Football League and eventually retiring from football in 2022.

This Gig Is Bad Timing

Usually, the world is thrilled whenever it’s announced that Lainey will be performing somewhere. That being said, people aren’t exactly ecstatic about this Thanksgiving show.

Specifically, the Dallas Cowboys fandom are so upset with the scores that the team has been getting recently, that they aren’t allowing themselves to get hyped for the game, let alone her performance.

In the comments section of her IG reveal post, people agreed that this was just not the right time for the country music star to be representing the team. Here are a few of the comments:

  • “If the special guest can’t call offensive players…then I don’t want to hear it.”
  • “No one cares. The team sucks.”
  • “Yeah this was probably not an ideal time to post this.”

Do you think people will tune in to watch Lainey’s performance anyway? Who do you think her special guest is going to be? Let us know all of your thoughts in the comments below.
