- Oliver Anthony Tears Into Beyonce Over ‘Trash’ Dolly Parton Cover - December 8, 2024
Oliver Anthony recently tore into Beyonce over her cover of one of Dolly Parton’s classic tunes, and he did not hold back with his critique. So, what did the controversial singer and songwriter have to say about Beyonce’s take?
Oliver Anthony Loved For His Authenticity
Oliver Anthony may be a nightmare for record execs and big-time people in the Nashville music industry, but, he is a voice for the common man. His message resonates with audiences for being authentic and not over-produced like a lot of what is on the radio today.
His hit song “Rich Men North Of Richmond” was a monster hit, catapulting him into instant fame and recognition overnight. However, Anthony is not about the usual traps that people fall into when navigating the Nashville music scene. In fact, he called out the music business recently in epic fashion.
Anthony Slams Beyonce’s Cover Of Dolly Parton Classic
One of the things that Oliver Anthony called out recently is Beyonce’s rendition of the Dolly Parton classic, “Jolene.” Beyonce did not get the reception she likely expected once she made a country album. While the country music family has embraced people like Post Malone crossing over into country, the reception for Beyonce has not been nearly as warm.
However, if one were to think that this was bad, it’s nothing close to the comments Oliver Anthony made recently about Beyonce’s take on the classic tune made famous by country music royalty.
Anthony said of the cover that it is “complete trash.” He went on to add: “It makes me wanna throw up. It represents how degenerative our society has become that a Beyoncé version of ‘Jolene’ can come out and anybody actually listen to it and think that it’s not complete trash.”
Oliver Anthony Wants To Do His Own Thing
Through Oliver Anthony’s opinion on things like the state of the music industry in Nashville and beyond, he has separated himself as an anti-establishment rebel, the kind of thing that will make his fanbase love him even more. Outliers like Anthony give a different perspective beyond the cookie-cutter, formulaic viewpoints that most might expect.
Anthony has also paid the price for not wanting to continue riding that same wave that he did when his hit single put him on the world stage. The way Anthony sums it up, he said: “I don’t need a bunch of nerds and coffee-drinking freaks in Nashville to tell me how to live my life.”
