Wilson Dishes On Her Songwriting Process For Popular Track

One of the hits on Lainey Wilson’s most recent album, Whirlwind, is “4x4xU.” Recently, Lainey opened up about writing this song, and gave her fans a glimpse into her songwriting approach. So, what did the singer and songwriter reveal about how she wrote this song?

According to Wilson, she said: “That one feels right. I guess that’s the word. We wrote that song in 30 minutes. I don’t normally write songs in 30 minutes. I’ll write for six hours and maybe come back to it the next day cause I just want to go through it with a fine-tooth comb. But this was not one that I feel like I needed to do that. I feel like it just was what it was. When we got into the studio, [producer] Jay Joyce does his thing…makes it country but makes it broad.”

Lainey Wilson Uses Her Love Life As Inspiration

One of the things that Lainey Wilson draws on when it comes to how she approaches writing songs these days is her love life. She has been in a happy relationship with former Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Devlin “Duck” Hodges, and that has also found its way into her songwriting, with the occasional sappy love song every now and again.

Speaking more about her songwriting process, specifically for “4x4xU,” Lainey Wilson added: “The truth is, I write what I know, and I finally found a man worth writing about. So, you know, it’s a love song because y’all probably thought, ‘Dang, she ain’t got it in her, she ain’t got it in her.’ But I do. I got me a cheerleader.”
