Country Star Dolly Parton Doesn’t Think She’s An Icon

Not many country music artists have reached the icon level of the great Dolly Parton. In a recent interview with ‘Southern Living’ the country music legend spoke about her fame. Dolly was transparent about the fact that she still can not believe that she is famous. The celebrated “9 to 5” singer is an idol to many fans and other artists.

Dolly Parton’s Historic Career

Thousands know that country music superstar Dolly Parton is an icon of country music.  She has been nominated for two Academy Awards, won 10 Grammy Awards, and has a theme park styled after her. Parton’s status in country music has grown exponentially throughout her career. Her career exploded when she became a part of the musical variety show The Porter Wagoner Show.

On The Porter Wagoner Show Dolly replaced Wagoner’s partner Norma Jean and was instantly loved by audiences. She became even more popular among fans when she hosted the Variety Show. The “Jolene Singer” often collaborates with other country artists to create epic musical works. Most recently a Broadway musical is in development. The show is based on Dolly Parton’s outstanding career. The show will be called Dolly: An Original Musical. Parton who is 78, recently commented on her career, she said:

Dolly Parton is a triumphant singer-songwriter, actress, and businesswoman. The songwriter spoke to her enjoyment of her craft. She said, “I walk around with a song in my head and in my heart.”  Dolly further explained that songwriting often causes her to lose her train of thought. She stated, “I’ll go into a closet and wonder, ‘Now, what in the hell did I come in here for?” She continued,  “There’s nothing that makes me happier than writing a song.” This is evident in her work which is often extremely powerful.

Dolly Parton has had many hits over the years. She recently said that she’s “Proud of all of them.” However, one stood out to her. Parton said:

“I think the one that’s most personal to me is the lil’ ‘Coat of Many Colors,’ because it talks about my mom, my parents, and kind of gives you an insight. It also covers bullying, acceptance and all that.”
