Jelly Roll has brought his “therapeutic music” to heroic veterans at the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025. This was a moving moment for the superstar who loves to give back any chance he gets. So, what was this experience like for the forty-year-old father of two? Keep reading for more details.
Jelly Roll Brings ‘Therapeutic Music’ To Heroic Veterans
The one thing about Jelly Roll is he will never turn away an opportunity to help others no matter what it is. He visits inmates and lets them know that there is light at the end of the tunnel. This matters because he was once incarcerated and was constantly getting into trouble. He has recounted his mother’s sleepless nights and the jail calls he would make to her. More so, his daughter, Bailee Ann, 16, was born when he was locked up. Now, he has full custody of Bailee and partial of his son, Noah. Jelly met his wife, Bunnie Xo, and together, they mapped out their lives, and what their goals and dreams were.

Nothing has stopped them as they keep moving forward which is his message that one must keep going. He is now a four-time Grammy nominee and an Artist in Residence on American Idol, the first one ever. Most recently, he had the pleasure of performing at the closing ceremony for the 2025 Invictus Games. This is a tournament for wounded, injured, and sick veterans founded by Prince Harry in 2014. Jelly was honored to get a chance to perform, according to People.

He made it clear that he was not a hero but just a regular guy yet had so much pride in being able to perform for these veterans:
I am honored to stand in front of some of the greatest and strongest people across the entire world tonight. My name is Jason ‘Jelly Roll’ DeFord and this song is called ‘I Am Not Okay.’
Jelly then proceeded to hug the athletes before belting out his emotional, chart-topping ballad. He went on to say:
First of all, I would just like to thank everybody with the Invictus Games for having me here tonight and letting me bring my form of therapeutic music here tonight to serve those who have served us across the world.
It’s Not Over
Jelly Roll was so honored to be on the stage and to be able to perform, he added in some self-deprecating humor. He joked about not being a hero of any sort, which is debatable. However, the real heroes were in the audience and he was just an overweight guy with a mic:
But I want to be clear right now about what’s happening on this stage. I am an overweight man with a microphone. The real heroes are the athletes and the families that are in this building right now, and I want you to know, whenever you go home after these 11 days of adrenaline and you finally sit down and in a few months from now when the world finally comes back around, I want you to know this. If you ever hear that voice in your head saying you can’t be anything but great, it’s the voice of a liar!
Jelly soon launched into another chart-topper, “Liar,” and it was clear that he felt every word that he said. Keep in mind that it was not long ago he could not even leave America. Due to his record, he had to stay within the fifty states but he was doing such incredible work, that was lifted and he could travel to Canada. So, this is extra sweet.
