As a pre-teen, he discovered his father was not who he believed him to be but rather pro baseball player Tug McGraw. Tim said he only found out by happenstance, and this had a significant impact on his development. The country superstar confronted his mother about his findings, and she told him his father had chosen not to communicate with the youth.
