Dolly Parton Shares Sabrina Carpenter Collab Dealbreaker
When Dolly Parton and Sabrina Carpenter announced they were working together, music fans were thrilled. It was the right combination and many felt Sabrina looked like she could be a young Dolly. The song, “Please, Please, Please” was somewhat inspired by Dolly’s music and a country style. Therefore, it only seemed right to put a twist on it for the rerelease of Sabrina’s Short n’ Sweet album. They got together and even filmed a new music video. Sabrina’s previous one featured her then-boyfriend, Barry Keoghan and they were involved in criminal activity. Her video with Dolly was much more lighthearted and fun.

However, before Dolly agreed to work with the young star, she has some stipulations for Sabrina. Sabrina does not censor herself on her album but that was not going to fly with Ms. Parton. She may write songs about man stealers and heartbreak but it is never foul. Therefore, she told Sabrina she would not say any bad words nor would she speak negatively of Jesus or God. These were her core rules and Sabrina had to abide by them, which she did. She changed the lyrics in “Please, Please, Please” from “I beg you, don’t embarrass me, motherf*cker, ah-oh,” to “I beg you, don’t embarrass me like the others.”

When Dolly Parton met with Sabrina Carpenter, she wanted to make herself clear. These are the dealbreakers she had to perform alongside her:
Of course, she can talk a little bad now and then. I told her, I said, now, I don’t cuss. I don’t make fun of Jesus. I don’t talk bad about God, and I don’t say dirty words, on camera, but known to if I get mad enough.
It seemed to work because Sabrina and Dolly went on to make magic together and fans have loved it.
Rave Reviews
Although Sabrina Carpenter had to tone herself down a touch to work with Dolly Parton, their collaboration has been a hit. Fans even picked up on some of Dolly’s rules before she said anything:
- Dolly said she ain’t cursing! 🤬
- THE COLLAB WE DIDNT KNOW WE ABSOLUTELY NEEDED!!! 💙💋
- short n sweet deluxe is PERFECTION
- I love this one, iconic ❤️
- 💘💘💘💘 the collab we desperately needed!!
Since they filmed in a pickup truck, some believed that it was alluding to Sabrina’s ex, Barry being deceased in the back. They have neither confirmed nor denied this but it would be an interesting twist. Dolly has since experienced severe heartbreak amid recording the single. Her husband of nearly sixty years, Carl Dean passed away less than a month after the “Please, Please, Please” video was released. She turned around and recorded a song to honor their love which was epic and beautiful.
