Why Ronnie Dunn Shockingly Walked Off Mid-Song
On Thursday, April 3rd, 2025, Brooks & Dunn was performing a show at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Everyone was having a good time until the encore. As Ronnie Dunn was singing the 1991 single, “Boot Scootin’ Boogie,” he shockingly walked off of the stage. He had asked the concertgoers to “sing it if you know it,” but eventually patted his chest and exited. No one knew what was going on but they were visibly concerned as to why he did not finish out the show. It was noted that Ronnie had a few moments during the show that caused concern, but he never shared what the problem was.

The band has not said anything regarding what happened that night or if Ronnie is okay. Fortunately, he has some time to recover as they do not return to their tour until April 24th. They will then do a few shows per month throughout the summer, ending in October in Ocean City, Maryland. Additionally, they just released a new album at the end of 2024, so it is vital for them to promote it after decades of hard work. Many fans were worried after Ronnie’s exit and rushed to Brooks & Dunn’s social media to send well wishes:
- We hope Ronnie gets well soon. Great show in Indy. B&D never disappoints!
- Sending love and healing thoughts your way!
- Hey Ronnie Indy wishes you well and hope you feel better soon❤️

Looking Toward The Future
As Ronnie Dunn walked off, he patted his fellow bandmates on the shoulders to show love. However, many still want to know how he’s doing and if the tour will move forward as planned. Brooks & Dunn has had some struggles when it comes to Ronnie in recent months. In March 2025, he had strep throat and Covid. During a Houston, Texas show, Ronnie joked:
We call it strovid… If you hear the wrong notes tonight, we’ll blame it on that. Any other time it’s just me.
He was set to do one more song per the setlist, but that did not happen. Rather, Ronnie ended the encore early, and it is unclear if the band played the other song sans vocals. After the video was released of Brooks & Dunn, fans immediately chimed in with their thoughts. It seemed many appreciated his vocals and were not mad at him for ending:
- Even with a rough voice, he sounds better than 99% of today’s “country” artists.
- Ronnie is 71 years old also, he was great
- Aww he was done. But at least he made gestures of respect ✊🏽
It was known that he had been ill, so it likely is still lingering. Yet, he did his best, and that is all that matters. Have you seen Brooks & Dunn live before and are you concerned for Ronnie? Let us know in the comments below.
