What Luke Bryan Said About Beyoncé
Beyoncé is one of the most successful R&B/pop singers of this generation. But she wanted to spread her wings musically into the country music genre. She released an album of country-inspired songs in March 2024. Cowboy Carter sold millions of copies and the singles “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages” reached the top spot on music charts.
Despite the album’s success, the singer didn’t receive a single nomination for this year’s Country Music Association Awards. The CMA snub came as a total surprise, especially after rapper Post Malone’s country album earned several nominations. Several country artists weighed in on the diss, including Dolly Parton.
But Luke Bryan’s comments on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live show riled a lot of Beyoncé fans. He implied that the R&B artist wasn’t country enough to earn nominations.
He said, “Everybody loved that Beyoncé made a country album. Nobody’s mad about it. But where things get a little tricky — if you’re gonna make country albums, come into our world and be country with us a little bit.” Click here to read his full comments.
Addresses ‘False Narrative’ About His Comments
After major backlash for his comments, Luke Bryan took to social media to clarify what he meant. He said that he was in the middle wrapping up his tour but felt he had to address the news coverage of his Beyoncé comments.
According to the American Idol judge, the media tried to “create a false narrative” and take his comments out of context. He encouraged his fans to listen to the radio interview instead of reading “clickbait” headlines.
Furthermore, he added that his tone and intentions “were not negative.” The country singer made it clear he had no ill will toward Beyoncé or her country album. “I respect Beyonce and I love how loyal her fans are,” he said.”
