Dolly Parton Shares Why She Never Had Children
Dolly Parton and her late husband, Carl Dean, lived their lives in the spotlight thanks to Dolly’s prolific career in the country music industry. The couple was together nearly 60 years before Carl’s passing early this month. Dolly was 18 years old when she met her husband in a laundromat near Nashville, TN. She had moved to the city to chase her dreams as a country music singer. Two years after they met, the couple was married in 1966. Something that has always captured fans’ attention is the fact that the country music legend and her husband never had children. In a recent interview, Dolly opened up about their decision not to have children. The reason is pretty straightforward.

Dolly Parton and her husband, Carl Dean, chose not to have children. It was something that they put a significant amount of thought into when making their decision. Parton previously told Oprah Winfrey that they decided to do so because Dolly wanted to focus on her country music career. She said, “Since I had no kids, and my husband was pretty independent, I had freedom. So I think a big part of my success is that I was free to work.” Dolly further explained:
“I didn’t have children because I believed that God didn’t mean for me to have kids so everybody’s kids could be mine, so I could do things like Imagination Library because if I hadn’t had the freedom to work, I wouldn’t have done all the things I’ve done. I wouldn’t be in a position to do all of the things I’m doing now.”
Dolly Parton’s philanthropic endeavors involve extensive work with children. For example, her Imagination Library has been giving children free books for 30 years.

Carl Dean Recently Passed Away
Dolly Parton has made sacrifices to become a country music legend. However, she believes she has followed what she was supposed to do to fulfill her purpose. Parton has been a busy woman for a long time, but she always made sure to spend memorable moments with her husband, Carl Dean. She said that they would often go sightseeing and go to restaurants. Parton announced Monday, March 3rd, that her long-time partner had passed at the age of 82. The announcement on social media read:
“Carl Dean, husband of Dolly Parton, passed away March 3rd in Nashville at the age of 82. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with immediate family attending. He is survived by his siblings Sandra and Donnie.”
Dolly said:
“Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.”
