John Mayer is calling out country music and how he feels like it is a bit of a cheat. In a recent interview with Lainey Wilson, John talks about how he thinks they have an advantage with the lyrics they write for country. John sat down with Lainey for his How’s Life with John Mayer on SiriusXM.
John Mayer Shares His Thoughts On Country
John Mayer isn’t holding back while talking to Lainey, but she did actually agree with him a bit. He said that being able to talk about alcohol in every song is kind of a cheat. Here is what he said:
“My hottest take about country, the only critical take about country… it’s the constant invocation of drinking. Everyone loves drinking. So when you think about drinking, you get excited. When you hear about drinking, you have a smile on your face.
To me, sometimes, it’s a little bit of a cheat. Because it’s like telling people, ‘Remember how cool tequila is? My song is playing while you are thinking about tequila.’ See what I’m saying?”
Lainey Wilson did actually agree with him a bit saying it does feel that way.
John Elaborates More On His Thoughts
That isn’t all that John Mayer had to say, though. He went on to talk about how being able to name-drop legendary artists also helps out country music singers. John did say that he loves the song Wait In The Truck and that everyone should listen to that one. He didn’t have anything bad to say about that song at all.
