Rock icon Jon Bon Jovi is bringing a little country to his latest song. He is teaming up with Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles again for an inspiring quarantine anthem. This isn’t the first time the rocker has gone country.
“Who Says You Can’t Go Home” Tops Country Charts in 2005
Bon Jovi’s album Have a Nice Day included the song “Who Says You Can’t Go Home.” But singer Jon Bon Jovi felt the song was missing something. So he recruited the Sugarland singer to join him for a remake.
The song made its way to the top of the country charts. In fact, the song made Bon Jovi the first rock band to top the country charts. “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” won a Grammy for Best Country Collaboration in 2006.
But they aren’t the only country/rock crossover. Sammy Hagar recently teamed up with Brooks & Dunn for a television show.
Fifteen years after their first collaboration, the two are teaming up again.
Jon Bon Jovi Encourages Listeners to “Do What You Can”
In March, the coronavirus caused a nationwide shutdown. It was during the initial quarantine that Jon Bon Jovi wrote the song “Do What You Can.” He debuted an acoustic version of the song at the Jersey4Jersey benefit show in April.
In May of 2020, Bon Jovi released the video for “Do What You Can.” The eerie video follows Jon Bon Jovi through the empty streets of New York City.
On September 18, Jon Bon Jovi dropped a surprising update to the song. Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles joins him again on a reworked take on the song. A new video including Jennifer Nettles was also released on Bon Jovi’s YouTube and other social media platforms.
In the new video, Jon Bon Jovi and Jennifer Nettles meet on a New York City street. Wearing masks, they keep their social distance. The song is meant to inspire with the chorus, “When you can’t do what you do/You do what you can.”
New Bon Jovi Album Out Next Month
“Do What You Can” is a single off Bon Jovi’s forthcoming 2020 album. It will be the band’s 14th studio album. The new songs on the new album reflect “socially conscious matters,” Blabbermouth reports. For example, the song “Unbroken” was in the To Be of Service documentary about PTSD in the military. The outlet reports that another song on the album, “Lower The Flag,” is about gun violence.
Bon Jovi’s latest album will be released on October 2, 2020. The tracklist includes:
- Limitless
- Do What You Can
- American Reckoning
- Beautiful Drug
- Story of Love
- Let it Rain
- Lower The Flag
- Blood In The Water
- Brothers In Arms
- Unbroken
2020′s original release date was in May. The band was planning to embark on a tour in the U.S. in June. However, in April, they canceled the tour entirely so fans could get refunds. (At the time, Ticketmaster wasn’t offering refunds unless the concert dates were canceled. Ticketmaster quickly changed course after public outcry.)
Bon Jovi will hopefully reschedule the tour for 2021.
