Country icon Toby Keith took a long hiatus from the road and performing following his stomach cancer diagnosis. After everything he has been through, he recently praised his wife and the way she has been there for him through it all. So, what did he have to say?
Country Legend Sidelined By Stomach Cancer
When it comes to country music legends, Toby Keith has spent the last few decades earning that title. Whether through recording albums or relentlessly hitting the road, Keith is one of the hardest-working and most recognized faces in country music today.
Because of this, it came as an even bigger shock to his fans when Toby Keith shared his stomach cancer diagnosis. Keith was diagnosed with stomach cancer in the fall of 2021. As a veteran road warrior, Toby Keith was forced to put touring on hold to tend to his health. As Keith has revealed, that alone has been a major adjustment for him.

Country Singer Returned To The Stage, But Not Out Of The Woods Yet
Following surgery and time to rest and recover, Keith was finally able to return to the stage not too long ago. He played a series of shows in Las Vegas. Even though this was an extremely light undertaking compared to the amount of touring he is used to, many fans would agree that it was a great thing to see him get back to doing what he loves.
Even so, unfortunately, Toby Keith isn’t entirely in the clear just yet. He is still in treatment. As such, he has undergone everything from surgery to chemotherapy and radiation. The singer has described this chapter of his life as a roller coaster, and rightfully so.

Keith Praises His Wife And Biggest Supporter
When you go through something to the extent that Toby Keith has in the last few years, those closest to you become the ones you lean on the most for support. Luckily for the Should’ve Been a Cowboy singer, he has had his wife with him every step of the way.
Toby Keith and Tricia Lucus are relationship goals personified, as they’ve been together nearly 40 years. Tricia was there when Toby Keith was trying to make it in the business, and, as Keith recently talked about, she has been there for him during his entire cancer ordeal.
Speaking of his better half, Toby Keith said she has been a “trooper” through everything. Along with that, Keith praised his wife even more, calling her the “best nurse”. Keith also added that Tricia took charge and held it down, becoming even more of his rock when it came to things like dealing with his treatment. If there were times when he was shaky, she would say, “Don’t worry about it”. Even though Toby Keith isn’t completely in the clear, he has come a long way, and he has his wife by his side through it all.
