George Strait and his wife, Norma, have been married 50 years. When you are married to the King of Country Music, you can expect to celebrate that milestone anniversary with a song. That is exactly how the “You Look So Good In Love” singer celebrated his marriage.
The Perfect Song
George Strait had to choose the perfect song to dedicate to his wife. He selected “I Cross My Heart.” He could not have done better. The words are perfect for a couple who have been married for so many years.
The song “I Cross My Heart” is from the movie Pure Country. Not only was George Strait the musical talent of this movie, he was also the star. Strait made his film debut as Dusty Wyatt Chandler in this movie which was released in 1992. Check out his special performance below.
The Strait History
George and Norma Strait were married in 1971. The couple met when he was 19 and she was only 17.
The couple eloped and were married in Mexico. The marriage started just in time for the two to move to Hawaii. The “Murder On Music Row” singer was stationed there while serving in the Army. The couple spent the next few years in Hawaii.
The couple had two children, Jennifer and George Jr., known as “Bubba.” Their daughter was killed in a car accident in 1986. She was only 13 years old.

George Strait’s Record-Breaking Career
His musical career didn’t take off until 1981. That is when he released “Unwound.” The rest is history. George Strait kept releasing country music gold, having 60 number one songs. That is the record for number one songs by any solo artist.
The “Check Yes Or No” singer is also a magnet for awards. He has won numerous CMAs and ACMs throughout his career as well as a Grammy. He was Entertainer of the Year with both the CMAs and ACMs. When attending award shows, it is a rarity not to see his wife sitting next to him.
A Match Made In Heaven
George and Norma Strait appear to be a match made in Heaven. Despite starting their married life early, surviving the death of a child and all the perils a life of a country music megastar can face, the two of them have weathered every storm and celebrated each victory together. It would be hard to imagine they aren’t as in love with each other as they were when they were married 50 years ago.
