As shocking as it may sound to many people, not everything on the Internet is true. False stories are circulated on the world-wide web all the time. Garth Brooks fell prey to one such story. Despite the fact this so-called news was all over the Internet, Garth Brooks was not found to be too “woke” to participate in a tribute to the late Toby Keith.
How The Story Got Started
The fake news that stated Garth Brooks was not welcome at a tribute to Toby Keith was started on a satirical website. This website, known for posting satire pieces, claimed, due to the “Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old) singer’s political leanings, would not be able to perform at a tribute for Toby Keith.
Many people who read the so-called news did not read the website’s disclaimer. The disclaimer explains how the articles are “meant to be humorous.” It even states how the articles found there “are often made up.” They make no claims the articles are true or accurate.
The website’s disclaimer does not stop there. It goes on to encourage readers to “exercise caution” and how they should “use their own judgment” when reading anything on their site. The site is quite clear when it states “It is the responsibility of the reader to discern the intent of these articles and to understand they are not presented as factual news.”
Satire Sites Have A History With Garth Brooks
This is not the first time a satirical site has used Garth Brooks to gain readers. Another such story was when it was reported Garth Brooks was booed off a stage in Texas. Just like the article about Garth Brooks being too woke to appear in a tribute to Toby Keith, it was not in the least bit true.
The article about Brooks being booed off stage was shared by none other than the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott. This was possibly worse for Governor Abbott. The city where this allegedly happened is not even a city in Texas.
Garth Brooks Tribute To Toby Keith
Despite their different political views, Garth Brooks posted a tribute to the “Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue” singer on his website. “In the entertainment world, things change from day to day. The business changes, the music changes, the ONLY thing constant is change,” Garth Brooks posted. “Except for Toby Keith…Toby was the same every time you saw him. Loved him or hated him, he was constant.”
The “American Honky Tonk Bar Association” singer went on to state in his post, “To say I knew him well wouldn’t be [an] accurate statement. I knew of Toby his entire career, but only got to know him a bit at the Tornado Relief Concert he did in Oklahoma over a decade ago. What he did for the victims and survivors brought a ray of hope in a dark, dark time…”
“He was still that no-filter, very loud, honest guy he was in the beginning,” Garth Brooks wrote. “And artist to artist, he sounded the best I had ever heard him the last time he took the stage at the Ryman and in Vegas – a feat all of us artists wish to accomplish.”
