Music star Keith Urban is regarded as one of the best country artists of all time. From earning several Grammy wins to collaborating with major artists, music is truly his calling. Which makes the subject in school that he failed that much more surprising.
Did Keith Urban Fail Music Class?
Keith recently appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show as both a guest and a performer. During his segment, Kelly asked him if he remembered a music teacher that made an impact on him.
Urban responded by shouting out his tenth grade music teacher Mrs. Grimmer. He shared that he struggled with learning music theory, and that the theory was a requirement to pass the class.
Mrs. Grimmer attempted to bypass this rule by creating a play for the students to perform in instead. However, the performance didn’t count and Keith failed music class that year.
Kelly found this to be funny and couldn’t help but point out the obvious irony in his failure. “That’s like Neil DeGrasse Tyson failing science,” Clarkson remarked.
He Dropped Out Of High School
Despite failing music class, young Keith was still just as determined to become a music star. In fact, it was just after failing that class that he decided to drop out of school entirely.
The reason behind his gutsy choice at 15 years old was solely so that he could focus on his career.

“I said to my mom, “If I wasn’t in school, I could be playing five, six nights a week, earning really good money playing four hours a night, getting amazing experience,” he explained.
It was only a year after dropping out that he made it onto the singing competition series New Faces. And the rest of his stardom was history.
Urban hasn’t clarified whether or not he ever returned to get a GED diploma. Surprisingly, he and his wife Nicole Kidman share this similar backstory.
She has made it public knowledge that she dropped out during eleventh grade to pursue her career in acting. Based upon both of their wide successes, the couple’s separate leaps of faith paid off.
What Is Keith Working On?
Keith has been booked and busy in recent times. He just released his twelfth album High, which features a song with Lainey Wilson.
In October, the country icon will be kicking off a highly-anticipated Las Vegas residency. He has also announced that he will be going on a High and Alive World Tour in 2025. The only shows revealed for it so far are in Australia.
