Dolly Parton Reveals Best Christmas Traditions
It is no secret that Dolly Parton loves Christmas very much. She has been in a plethora of holiday films, had Christmas albums, and admits she plays Christmas music half of the day. There have also been specials she has done which included showing off her favorite doll and the first song she wrote. She shared the tale behind this doll while donning a plaid dress, sitting by a Christmas tree, surrounded by eager and excited children. Dolly loves to cook and be with her family. So much so that she and a bunch of relatives collaborated on an album in 2024.
She also worked on a cookbook with her sister, Rachel on family recipes. Her dishes can be found in the freezer section along with her Duncan Hines collaboration. There is also home decor so Dolly is everywhere for the holidays. Yet, the one place she will most definitely be found on Christmas is at home. According to People, Dolly has always been home for the holiday, at least as far as she remembers:
I love being home for Christmas, and so far I’ve missed all kinds of holidays, but to my knowledge I have never not been home for Christmas.
Dolly has been married to her husband, Carl Dean for nearly sixty years and they do not go out very much. He is a homebody whereas she likes to live and explore. However, they have found a great balance. That being said, she does love being home for the holidays. So, what does she do for Christmas? She is always running around and busy with her work but this is a time for many traditions:
[I love] the tradition of being home for Christmas, and being with family, and having all the good food and all the different dishes that different family members make, and just the music, and just all the festivities of the lights and the sounds, and everything to do with Christmas.
A Story To Be Told
Along with her movies and songs, Dolly Parton is including a holiday children’s book in her collection. Billy the Kid Comes Home for Christmas is all about a French Bulldog. He must decide if he will take a paid gig or come home for the holidays. This story is very personal to her and it is something she likely has grappled with in her life. For Dolly, the choice has been clear and that is to be home with her family and her loved ones. That is where her heart is.
