Country superstar Tim McGraw has dipped his hands in many pots. He is not just a singer, but he is also a husband, father, and actor. Yet, Tim is recalling the time he learned that his biological father was a sports icon after years of not knowing the truth. Keep reading for more on what he had to reveal.
Tim Is A Big Family Man
For three decades, Tim McGraw has been married to Faith Hill. They share three daughters, Gracie, Maggie, and Audrey. Although it has not always been easy, they have found a way to make it work. Along with being one of the biggest names in country music, Tim is also a well-known actor. He had roles in Friday Night Lights, Four Christmases, Yellowstone, and 1883. Yet it was learning at the age of eleven that his biological father was an iconic baseball player. The Delhi, Louisiana, native grew up with a stepfather, Horace Smith.
However, he believed that Horace was his dad until he ended up finding his birth certificate. That was when he learned the truth about Tug McGraw being his birth father. Although a strange twist, Tim was equally interested, as he was a baseball fan. Tug played for the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies, and when the two finally met, it was a huge deal:
The first time I ever came to New York, I rode up in a limo with Tug from Philadelphia. And we rode up with Rusty Staub and had dinner at Rusty’s restaurant, and everybody was coming over asking for autographs and pictures with him as Rusty. I thought, ‘Wow, this is a whole different world!’
Despite Tim McGraw’s excitement about his father, Tug denied that this was his son for many years. That was a hard pill to swallow, but eventually, the two worked through it and had a lot of fun together. Sadly, Tug passed away in 2004 when he was just 59, but the two formed a bond over their love of baseball. It also made Tim a better father to his three girls.

Since the two began appearing together, a joke started that Tim McGraw was just Tug McGraw’s son. He lost his credibility as a country superstar, but that did not seem to matter, as it was all in good fun:
