Willie Nelson is recalling the time when he knew that he was dying, which was the worst moment of his life. However, the performer, who is 93, believes strongly in reincarnation and did not officially give up. So, when was this, and what exactly happened? Keep reading for more details.
Willie Nelson Has Lived A Rough Life
There is no doubt that Willie Nelson has lived and partied during his time touring. He has been around for decades and is an icon. So many musicians want to collaborate with him and idolize Willie for the performer that he is. Unfortunately, he is 93, but he is not letting his age get in his way. He has made it clear that without touring, he would lie down and die. That is not something he is willing to do, but there was a time when he thought he was dying or halfway to death.

In 2022, Willie was struck down with COVID, and it was the worst nightmare possible. His wife of 40 years, Annie, was right there by his side. She would not let it get him, as she shared the details of how she took care of him:
I had a nebulizer on the bus. I started everything I could at that point, including Paxlovid. He had the monoclonal antibodies. He had steroids. We turned the house into a hospital. There were a couple of times when I wasn’t sure he was going to make it.
For Willie Nelson, he did not want to make it, as he was convinced that he was headed for death:
Oh god yeah, it was terrible. I wanted to punch out, I wanted to go, Annie wouldn’t let me. She said, ‘If you die, I’ll kill you.’ Yes, I could tell that I was dying… I wanted to die. It was the worst feeling I’ve ever had.
Yet, he is still here to tell the tale, and he shares it all in his new book, The Last Leaf: Reflections on Late-Life Creativity—and My Longest Love Affair.
