On Wednesday, October 21st, 2026, Dolly Parton was honored by the best in country music. Ella Langley was one of the performers who paid tribute to the late icon. Unfortunately, she was slammed for a “rough” performance. Keep reading for more on what viewers had to say about how Ella sang.
Ella Langley Showed Up, Ready To Sing
Honoring Dolly Parton was hard enough when she was alive. Sadly, she passed away unexpectedly at the end of August from cancer, which she kept hidden from her fans. No one wants to admit that she is gone, but she is, and it is a sad reality. On October 21st, the country community gathered for CMA Presents I Will Always Love You: A Celebration of Dolly Parton. One of the chosen singers was Ella Langley, who took on “Jolene.” This is one of the hottest Dolly songs ever and has been covered by many artists.
Unfortunately, Ella’s performance did not land as she had hoped. Many fans and followers slammed it as “rough” and felt that Dolly’s goddaughter, Miley Cyrus, should have taken on the single:
- Well, that was rough. 🥴
- Love ya Ella but this song ain’t for you and neither is the fit
- Yea Miley should have been there and done this song.
It seems that this particular song was not right for Ella Langley, and that is just fine. However, this played out on national television, and now everyone seems to be chiming in.

It seemed that this song needed more power than Ella could offer. Moreover, she did not do it justice, but it was also noted that the performers were honoring Dolly. They were not trying to be her by any means:
- Ooh she’s vocally flat here. Perhaps this song wasn’t quite the right fit for her.
- Love Ella but this sucked. The performance the fit the vibe everything

Some Loved It
Of course, some fans loved Ella Langley, the performance, and all that came with it. They believed Dolly Parton would have been beyond pleased, and no one should judge her. Regardless, she was judged quite harshly, down to what she wore. Hopefully, she will get a chance to redeem herself in the near future.
