On June 26, 2020, the much-anticipated album The Lemonade Stand by Tenille Townes becomes available. Previously, only releasing EPs, this full-length 12-track album hosts songs that Townes contributes not only in vocals but in writing.  While The Lemonade Stand is Townes’ third album, it is the first release with Country music label, Columbia Nashville. Townes’ first album is Real (2011), followed by Light (2013). Both albums are with Royalty Records.

About Tenille Townes

Townes is from Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. According to Wikipedia the first album, Real, allowed her to raise $1.9 million for Sunrise House, a shelter for homeless youth in Alberta. Since announcing she’d signed with Columbia Nashville, Townes has opened for Miranda Lambert and Little Big Town on their tour, The Bandwagon Tour, in 2018. Remarkably, she’s also won four awards at the 2019 Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA). These nominations include Female Artist of the Year and three accolades for “Somebody’s Daughter.”  The single won Single, Song, and Video of the year.

Gutwrenchingly, Townes describes the inspiration for “Somebody’s Daughter.” She says she got the idea to write the song when she was in the car with her mother. “We were going furniture shopping and saw this girl holding onto a cardboard sign. It kind of made us think about what her story might have been, and how everybody’s got one,” she describes.

RollingStone describes “The Most Beautiful Things,” a “a fitting message for this period of social distancing, and reminding us that there’s beauty all around.” The piano-driven ballad was released at the beginning of April during the coronavirus pandemic. Townes sings, “Maybe the most beautiful things in life are felt and never seen.” Sadly, RollingStone also reports on “an inadvertent tribute to the late Bill Withers.” Accompanied by Abby Anderson and Caylee Hammack, the trio sang an at-home cover of “Lean On Me” April 1st.

Additionally, she shares, “I want this music to be like a gathering place, where people can come and be filled up. I hope this record reminds people of who they are, that they are not alone, and reminds them of their dreams.”

Heartwarmingly, Townes tells Taste of Country, “This record is the dream that I had when I was a 7-year old kid singing along in the backseat of the car.” Imaginably, 7-year old Tenille would be ecstatic to know that she grows up to be a 2020 ACM Awards nominee for New Female Artist of the Year and Musical Event of the Year. All of that in addition to her four awards from the 2019 CCMA Awards.

Keep an eye on wherever you get new music; The Lemonade Stand releases this Friday, June 26th. Stay tuned to Country Music Alley for more Country music news.
