Lee Greenwood has been relieved of his duties on the Arts Council by Joe Biden. Greenwood announced that he was fired when he appeared on Fox & Friends. The award-winning country music star was shocked at his dismissal from a position he has held since the early 2000s.
Greenwood’s Service To Three Presidents
Greenwood was first appointed to the position on the Arts Council by President George Bush in 2008. He also held this position under Barack Obama and Donald Trump. After serving three different presidents, two Republican and one Democrat president, he was let go by the current president, a Democrat.
Those appointed to the Arts Council serve six-year terms. Greenwood served during all eight years of Barack Obama’s time as president. This means Obama had to have re-appointed Greenwood to the position. Despite that, Biden saw fit to let this talented singer and musician go after serving less than a year under the current administration.
No Call, No Letter
After well over a decade of service, Lee Greenwood did not get a letter or even a phone call to let him know he had been fired from the Arts Council. Instead, the “God Bless The U.S.A” singer was let go via email.
Greenwood said he was “surprised” by the email letting him know his services were no longer needed. Fans of Lee Greenwood will no doubt be surprised by this news as well. He went on to say Joe Biden “cleaned house.”
Lee Greenwood has been part of country music since the early 1960s. He released his biggest hit, “God Bless The U.S.A.” in 1984. The song is considered by many to be one the most patriotic songs. Donald Trump used this song as part of his campaign. It has also been used in other political campaigns as well. Greenwood has always said this specific song was not for a specific political party, but for all Americans.
Although known for his renditions of patriotic songs such as “God Bless America,” “America The Beautiful” and “The Battle Hymn of The Republic,” Greenwood also sings and writes non-patriotic songs. “Ring On Her Finger, Time On Her Hands” is one such song. “I Don’t Mind The Thorns (If You’re The Rose)” and “Dixie Road” are other non-patriotic songs this singer and songwriter is known for.
Lee Greenwood was born in South Gate, California in 1942, raised in Sacramento after his parents divorced. He started singing in his grandmother’s church when he was only seven years old. Greenwood, a father to three, currently makes his home in Nashville, the Country Music Capital of the World. He built a theater in Sevierville, Tennessee in 1996 which now hosts a church.
