Darius Rucker made everyone regret their opinion of him. What happened to make the country singer upset? How will his fans react, to his explanation? For more details on Darius and his actions, continue reading this.

How Darius Rucker Proved Them All Wrong

Darius first showed the world his musical talents in 1986, as a member of one of country music’s biggest-known groups, Hootie & The Blowfish. Throughout the years they have gained a lot of fans, for their unique sound and blended vocals. However, like many groups, a break is needed. During this time Darius made it as a breakout solo artist. Sometimes being in a group, you’re always put into a box and not seen as an individual. Some people are not made for a solo career. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case with him.

Branching out from Hootie & The Blowfish, Darius has made a name for himself. He has won a Grammy award and made ten number-one hits. Not only does he have fans from his band days, but also fans he has garnered on his own. Anyone would be excited about that, right? For an artist, the answer would be yes. As for fans of country music, it’s hard to tell. You either have support or you receive a lot of criticism and people wanting, to see your downfall.

Being A Black Country Singer

One way people connect is through music. Music is universal and the best part about it, is that there are so many genres that everyone can connect to. But apparently, there’s a requirement for who sings a certain genre of music. Darius is one of many black musicians, who have suffered with their encounter of racism. From artists like Chuck Berry, Ray Charles, Tina Turner, Charley Pride, and more, the subject of race has been brought to the forefront numerous times. During an interview with ET Canada Darius shared his own experience, of being ridiculed for the color of his skin. This isn’t an easy subject for anyone, but awareness is very important.

He explained, “To be honest with you, I didn’t think I would have much success. When I started doing the radio stations and stuff, I had people say to me, to my face, ‘My audience would never accept a black country singer'”. It’s hard for someone who didn’t have support from people, who didn’t wish them well. He also responded to those people by saying, “Okay, just play the record, let’s see and they did”. Proving others wrong is something he shouldn’t have had to do. His talent speaks for itself. He puts his own twists to the genre, especially with his baritone voice. It’s different, but in a good way.

Since his departure from the group in 2008, Darius was able to prove those who were not nice to him, wrong. His first single “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It”, came in at number one that year. This made him become the first black musician, to reach number one on the “Hot Country Songs” chart since country music great, the late Charley Pride in 1983. How amazing is this? That news is definitely one to be proud of. But the singer remained humbled saying, “I wasn’t worried about it, cause I just want to make records.”
