Lady A’s Charles Kelley is in the fight of his life as he is battling multiple myeloma, which is a rare form of blood cancer. Although he has remained fairly optimistic, even performing at the recent CMA tribute to the late Dolly Parton, he admits he was “naive” regarding the treatments. Keep reading for more on what Charles has to say now that he is in the thick of it all.

Charles Kelley Is Doing His Best

When Charles Kelley learned he had blood cancer, he was stunned. He had no idea that some blood tests following some rib fractures would lead to such a diagnosis. Yet, he went in with extreme optimism and hope. Moreover, a friend of his and his wife, Cassie, had a friend who was going through the same situation, so he felt somewhat prepared. It was not as bad as he thought it would or could be. Recently, Charles and his band, Lady A, performed on the CMA tribute to Dolly Parton.

He looked amazing, but now he is opening up about his naivety when it came to cancer treatments. The 45-year-old felt he knew some things, but there were some that he was completely in the dark about:

The good thing is that the treatment is working really well, but I will say I naively thought I would not be in so much pain.

Since it affects his bone marrow, he is in chronic pain when it comes to the drugs. Additionally, he has “full body aches” and is always fatigued. Of course, Charles is grateful that it is helping, but he did not think he would feel so horrible. Again, as he continued the update, Charles Kelley was the eternal optimist:

I’m hoping that as the chemo gets in there and fights off these cancer cells, that my bones will feel a lot better over the next few weeks. But it ain’t no joke, man. It’s real.

Future Problems

With this type of blood cancer, a person can experience fractured or broken bones quite easily. Hence, Charles Kelley’s rib fractures needed further tests, and that was how they learned he had cancer. Hopefully, he can start to feel much better sooner rather than later because he has an extremely positive outlook. He has gone into this ready to fight, so cancer does not have a chance.

Sending love and light to Charles Kelley and his family as he navigates this unimaginable journey.
