Devasting news comes from Middle Tennessee in the wake of the deadliest flood event in the area’s history. In Humphreys County, the death toll is 22 people. Additionally, WKRN reports that 51 people are missing. Keep reading to find out how this affects Loretta Lynn.

Loretta Lynn’s Ranch suffers the devastating loss of their foreman in Middle Tennessee flash flooding.

On Sunday, August 22, Loretta Lynn’s Ranch shares the heartbreaking news of their loss. Their foreman, Wayne Spears perished in the floodwaters. The Ranch shares the following, “With the heaviest of hearts we are saddened to report that our beloved foreman Wayne Spears did not survive being swept up in the flood waters.”

The statement details how Spears was “a family friend to the Lynns and a fixture to the Ranch for decades and we are all devastated by his passing.” In closing, the statement says, “Eventually we’ll rebuild our community, our ranch, our lives and our homes, but only God could build a man like Wayne Spears. There’s just no replacing that.”

Remarkably, the Facebook post has over 20K reactions and over 4.5K comments. Additionally, the post has been shared 11K times. The comment section is full of condolences and prayers to Spears’ family and those affected by the floods.

One of the hardest-hit areas was Waverly, Tennessee in Humphreys County. Mayor Buddy Frazier explains that people “felt totally caught off guard by the rainfall,” according to WKRN. “It was something like the quickness of a tornado I guess. Someone described it as a tidal wave,” says Mayor Frazier. Over 6 hours on Saturday, the area saw 9-17 inches of rain.

The rain and flooding are so catastrophic that by Sunday evening, President Biden tweets about it. His tweet reads as follows. “I send my deepest condolences for the sudden and tragic loss of life due to flash flooding in Tennessee. We’ve reached out to the community and will offer any assistance they need in this terrible moment.”
