The Band Perry chooses to break up

The Band Perry has announced they are breaking up. The band, consisting of brothers Reid and Neil and sister Kimberly, said that they plan to go their separate ways and will focus on individual projects.

Their breakup announcement came via a Twitter post. The announcement read that the three siblings are taking “a creative break as a group and each focus on our individual creative pursuits.” Additionally, they shared that they will support each other as artists and family in the future. They finished by writing, “Thank you for making our childhood dreams come true.”

Unlike many announcements of this kind, fans on Twitter were not always kind in their response. One user wrote that the band had rebranded itself so many times that this was not a surprise at all. Another said they had never seen “a group kill a successful career like this group has.” One noted they used to be their favorite band, but they “dropped off the face of the Earth.” They also added that Kimberly needs to go back to her “country roots.”

However, there were also those who wished them well, including one who thanked them for the love they showed their fans over the years.

The Band Perry enjoyed a great career together

Despite the people who felt the band had ruined their legacy over the years, The Band Perry remained a very successful group for a long time. After Garth Brooks’ agent discovered them, the band broke out in 2010 with their self-titled debut album.

That debut album reached the second spot on the U.S. Country Charts and climbed all the way to the fourth spot on the Billboard 200. It went platinum and sold over 1.6 million copies. The album was also a critical success. They won the Top New Vocal Duo or Group and the Top New Artist at the ACM Awards. Their song “If I Die Young” won the Breakthrough Video of the Year at the CMT Awards and they even garnered a Grammy nomination.

Their follow-up album, Pioneer, arrived in 2013 and it hit number one on the U.S. Country Charts and hit second on the Billboard 200. It was certified gold and sold over 619,000 copies. The Band Perry won the Top Vocal Group Award at the ACM Awards and the Vocal Group of the Year at the CMT Awards.

They finally won their biggest award when they won the Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the Grammys for “Gentle on My Mind.”

What Changed?

However, things changed after that when the band released a song called “Live Forever” for their planned third album. They then left their label and announced they were transitioning into a pop band. In 2017, they announced their third album was going to be called My Bad Imagination. The Band Perry never released that album and changed record labels again in 2018, moving on to release music independently. Since 2015, the band has only released four new non-album singles before this announced break up.
