Neal McCoy is standing in solidarity with his fellow country music stars in distancing himself from CMT. It is all about standing up for Jason Aldean. However, what he might not understand is that his sources are fake news stories and he might be standing alone.
Here is a look at what Neal McCoy said and why it might not leave the right impression.
Neal McCoy asks for videos to be removed from CMT
Jason Aldean saw his new video, “Try That In A Small Town,” removed from CMT. The problems came when people complained that the song was pro-gun violence. Aldean said that was never the point, as the song, in his mind, is about being an American. What most people don’t understand is that Aldean doesn’t write his own music, so he didn’t even write the words that are so controversial.
However, after this happened, people started talking about it. When looking online, and especially on social media, more lies than truths were spread about country music stars standing up for Aldean. It appears that Neal McCoy was one of the people fooled by the fake news articles.
One article said that Blake Shelton canceled a $30 million project with CMT in support of Jason Aldean. That was a fake news story, as there was no $30 million deal in place and Shelton never made any comment about this yet. Another story saw Luke Bryan reportedly pull his videos from CMT in support of his friend. This was also a fake news story. Finally, an article that claimed Hank Williams Jr. quit his role on the CMT board hit, and it was also fake news.
All of these news articles came from a site called The Dunning-Kruger Times, which is a spoof site (similar to The Onion). On the About Us page, the site says it posts satirical articles to make fun of the people who spread news without actually reading the entire article to realize it was all a joke.
The joke was on Neal McCoy, who posted on Facebook. “I am seeing where some of my more popular Country Music Padnuh’s are separating themselves from CMT. In solidarity, I am asking that CMT remove all of my current videos,” Neal wrote. “In support of the Jason Aldean video that has recently been removed. (That’ll show em).”
Is anyone really protesting for Jason Aldean?
While there are a lot of fake news stories out there about country music artists standing up and breaking away from CMT, there are some cases where people really are standing up for him. Neal McCoy is clearly wanting his videos removed from CMT, although he might be surprised to learn he might be one of the only ones.
There are others who have spoken up. Lee Greenwood is another man who has stood up for Jason. He called Aldean a “patriot” and said this was a case of taking away Aldean’s rights. Also, Aldean and Luke Bryan own a steakhouse that has stopped airing CMT in their bars.
What are your thoughts on Neal McCoy’s stance in the Jason Aldean controversy? Does it really matter that he fell for fake news articles about other country music artists? Let us know in the comments below.
