As Jason continued to sing the song he grabbed an American flag from the audience and draped it over his shoulder. The fans went nuts with screams and applause throughout the venue. He continued to have the flag draped on his shoulder through the remainder of the song.

At the end of the song, Aldean signed the flag and gave it back to the owner.

He did issue a statement after controversy erupted

When the controversy erupted, Jason Aldean did not back down from his beliefs about the song. He stands firm the song is not about racism.

In a statement, he said, “In the past 24 hours I have been accused of releasing a pro-lynching song (a song that has been out since May) and was subject to the comparison that I (direct quote) was not too pleased with the nationwide BLM protests. These references are not only meritless, but dangerous. There is not a single lyric in the song that references race or points to it- and there isn’t a single video clip that isn’t real news footage -and while I can try and respect others to have their own interpretation of a song with music- this one goes too far.”

Since then, fans and fellow country singers have spoken out in defense of Aldean.

What do you think of Jason’s hit song “Try That In A Small Town” and all the heat it’s been taking?
