Dolly Parton has had an amazing life. However, she once shared the story about how she had to pull a gun on a guy in New York City. The craziest thing was that this incident happened after she got kicked out of a hotel when the staff thought she was a prostitute.

Here is Dolly’s story about her first trip to New York City.

Dolly Parton had a wild first trip to New York City

Dolly Parton was born in the country, living in Tennessee as a child. She said she always wanted to see the big city, though, and she finally got a chance in the late 1960s to early 1970s. She told the story to Conan O’Brien.

According to Dolly, she had just started to make her name in country music at this time and decided to see New York City. Unfortunately, this first trip to the big city didn’t go well for her. Dolly said she went with a friend Judy Lane and they got one room since they didn’t have much money.

Dolly then said she looked “cheaper than I even do now” and that the hotel management got the wrong impression of them. They checked into their hotel room and then went out to see the city. When they got back, all their luggage was in the hall outside the room and the door locks were changed.

“They had us locked out cause they thought we were turning tricks up there,” Dolly said. This put Dolly and Judy out on the streets and they needed to figure out how to get back home early since they had nowhere else to stay.

Dolly Parton used this moment for a line in 9 to 5

Dolly Parton said that things got worse when she left the hotel with her friend. They were trying to get back home and decided to walk the streets of New York City while waiting for their departure time. This brought its own danger as a guy started to harass them. She said the guy thought she was out there “on the make” and he wouldn’t leave them alone.

Dolly said he touched her one too many times. As a country girl, she carried a gun in her purse and pulled it out, and pointed it at the guy. She told him if he touched her one more time, she would shoot him. This ended the problem. However, there was one more part to the story.

Dolly Parton used this for a line in 9 to 5. There was one line where she said, “I’ll turn you from a rooster to a hen with one shot.” She said that line was based on this true story of her experience in New York City.
