12-year-old Ashlyn Termini had no idea she was about to embark on the best day of her life. And when you’re 12, there’s exactly two things that could happen to earn such a title: either your crush asks you to the 7th grade dance, or your favorite singer pulls you up on stage for a duet. When Gabby Barrett looked out into the crowd and zoomed in on Termini’s sign, she knew she had to make this little girls day. At this Hometown Jams event, Barrett sold out the Northwest Health Amphitheater in Valparaiso. And during the show, Termini’s homemade sign read, “Can I sing ‘Pick Me Up’ with you?” This tickled Barrett, who talked about how no one had requested to sing this particular song with her before.
A Gabby Barrett Match Made In Tambourine Heaven
It’s every young girls dream to take the stage with their favorite performer and rock out, belting their favorite lyrics straight from the heart. And Ashlyn did exactly that. She made her way to the stage, and Barrett coaxed Termini to the center of the stage with her. Barrett offered the microphone to Ashlyn, a moment that will live in her memory forever. The crowd began to cheer as the two sang the first chorus together. Of course, Barrett leaned in for a big hug, which fans couldn’t help but cheer on.
In a classic duet style, the two sang opposite lines, and embraced as the track came to an end. And before Barrett sent her off stage, she signed a tambourine for Ashlyn.
Once Upon A (Country) Dream
Come to find out, Ashlyn’s mother Krystal Termini spread the word that her daughter is an aspiring country singer, and that country music has always been at the center of her heart. She spoke about their favorite pizza place. Ashlyn sings karaoke of all of her beloved female country singers. With Gabby Barrett at the top of her favorites list, Krystal was ecstatic to tell Ashlyn when she bought tickets to Barrett’s show. She suggested making a sign since Barrett is one of her favorite artists, which led to the best, unexpected experience.
Ashlyn described her duet with Barrett as an “amazing experience”, and excitedly reported that she’d never sang in front of so many people. She acknowledged that moment as a once in a lifetime chance. And she knows how good it feels to make others dreams come true.
“Pick Me Up” appears on Goldmine, Barrett’s debut album. Of course, it skyrocketed to the Top 10 on country radio. Barrett fans have a new, senior album to look forward to. She expressed her hopes for the album, and mentioned that these lyrics are some that she truly connects with. Every album is a chance for an artist to showcase their truth. And as fans await this coming of age album, they have plenty of jams to curate the perfect playlist with.
