Country music star Jake Owen recently marked a huge milestone in his life – 689 days of sobriety. Now he’s using his platform to encourage others who may want to do the same.
“Life Is So Much Better”
Two years ago, Jake Owen made the life-changing decision to stop drinking. In a series of stories on his Instagram profile, the singer revealed that nowadays when he heads “Down To The Honkytonk,” he does so without a drink in his hands.
“I’m really proud of myself,” Owen said of his accomplishment. He emphasized that “Life is so much better” now that he is sober.
Why Did Owens Quit Drinking?
When Owen made his announcement, some wondered if he had struggled with alcohol dependency in the past. Fortunately, this is not the case.
Speaking on his decision to stop drinking, the star clarified that he had never had a serious drinking problem. While he didn’t have an addiction, Owen didn’t like the person he became when he drank. He candidly admitted, “I was just being an asshole and being a person I didn’t want to be.”
Inspiring Others
Jake Owen doesn’t just want to celebrate his success though. He also wants to encourage others who are thinking about quitting alcohol. In the same series of Instagram stories, Owen made a point to embolden anyone else who is interested in sobriety.
“You should!” the singer affirmed. “Sleep better. Feel better. Be better… I’ll cheer you on.”
Owen also recommended people check out a podcast called “What Alcohol Does To Your Brain, Body and Health” by Andrew Huberman, which seems to have inspired him in his journey.
Righting Past Wrongs
Jake Owen is not proud of how he behaved when he was drinking.
“I said things I should, as well as did things I would never do sober.”
He admitted that there were probably people reading the post who he had treated poorly while he was drunk.
The singer explained that, following these instances, he’d had to own up to what he’d done wrong and commit to self-improvement.
“The ONLY thing I could do was be a better person going forward.”
The Things That Really Matter
Owen expressed how thankful he is to his loved ones who have supported him in his journey.
“I’ve been so fortunate to have friends and family around me that support me.”
That same day Owens also shared an Instagram video of him and his family spending time together at a White Sox and Kansas City Royals baseball game.
Now that he has quit drinking, it seems the singer can more easily enjoy the things that matter to him most, like his family.
Owens’ journey of 689 days without alcohol serves as an inspiring example of personal transformation and growth.
