As Toby Keith prepares to relaunch his country music career, he still knows he has to battle his cancer diagnosis. In December, Toby put on some Las Vegas shows. He now says they are getting the busses ready, meaning it is time to start touring again.
However, Toby also said that he knows his cancer battle won’t end. Here is what the country music superstar said about his health concerns.
Toby Keith knows cancer will never fully go away
Toby Keith stepped away from his country music career in 2022 when he announced his cancer diagnosis. Keith had been battling cancer for six months before he let fans know in June 2022 that he had stomach cancer. He then disappeared from the public eye as he met with doctors around the country and aggressively fought the disease.
Toby made his big return to the spotlight at the People’s Choice Country Awards, where he played an older song called “Don’t Let the Old Man In.” The song was inspired by a Clint Eastwood quote, but it has a whole new meaning thanks to Toby’s recent cancer battle. Facing mortality, Toby realized he had more to do in his career before his life ended.
However, at the same time, Toby Keith said in a recent interview on the Katie & Company podcast on Audacy with Katie Neal that he knows this is a battle he will be fighting for the rest of his list.
Toby Keith doesn’t know if he will ever be done with cancer
Toby Keith knows that this is a battle he will fight for the rest of his life. While the treatments will end, and he will get back on the road, Toby knows he can’t pretend like it is gone. As he said, “I don’t know if you’re ever done with [cancer], but I’m trying to be.”
Keith wants to play country music concerts again. He wants to make music. He wants to tour the country and put smiles on fans’ faces. However, he also knows that he has to always remain aware of his mortality and that he has to keep his eye on his health or everything could come to an end.
Toby Keith remains optimistic. He said that he refuses to let cancer define the rest of his life. Toby also refuses to be known only as a cancer survivor. More so, he wants to move forward, and said it doesn’t matter if he “lives to be 100 or not.” But he also knows the fact of the matter. Cancer will always be a concern, and he will just keep moving forward in the meantime.
