Kelly Clarkson has had to learn how to be a single parent after her divorce from Brandon Blackstock. Their divorce was finalized in 2022 after Kelly initially filed in 2020. Of course, the divorce was sad for everyone involved, but it seems it has been the hardest on her two children. However, Clarkson has had to set some ground rules that she feels will make her kids’ lives better.
An Unexpected Split
Fans were extremely shocked when the divorce between Kelly and Brandon became public. Not only was it a shock to fans, but it was also a shock to Clarkson as well. According to The U.S. Sun, the divorce was very unexpected for Kelly and she did not see it coming. What seems to hurt Kelly the most is that her children are hurting from it as well.
“I literally ask my kids every night when we’re snuggling, ‘Are you happy?’ And if you’re not, what could make you happier? It kills me, and I want them to be honest, so I don’t ever say, ‘Oh God, don’t tell me that,’” she continued. But a lot of times it would be like, ‘You know, I’m just really sad. I wish Mommy and Daddy were in the same house.’”
Regardless, Brandon and Kelly did what was best for them and their kids. Growing up in a broken home is worse than two loving ones.

Kelly Clarkson Sets Strict Rules For Her Two Children
Growing up with your mom being famous can get difficult. There are pros and cons just like with anything in life. However, Clarkson is trying her best to make it as happy and easy for her kids as she can. The 41-year-old singer revealed that she does not allow her children to have social media. Kelly Clarkson’s children are nine and seven so she has started this from a young age. Her daughter, River, and son, Remington, live with their mother the majority of the time. They only see their father four days out of the month. Kelly Clarkson told People.
“[Social media] can be really hard on kids in general but especially kids with parents in the public eye, “So I have informed them they’re not allowed to, under my roof, ever have [it].”
The kids did ask if they could have it at their dad’s house, but Kelly pointed out they would only have it four days a month. However, Brandon does agree with Kelly which makes her life a lot easier.

Clarkson needs to do what is best for her and her kids. If not allowing her children to have social media is in their best interest, then that is what she needs to do. It also helps that her ex-husband Blackstock is on the same page, if they weren’t that could cause some friction. Do you agree with her strict parenting? Do you think it is better for her kids to not have social media? What are your thoughts? Sound off in the comments below.
