Jelly Roll admits that he used to promote himself while doing drug deals. Even before becoming a country superstar and two-time GRAMMY nominee, he knew what he was doing. So, why did he think his drug deals made for good business? Read on for more details.
Jelly Roll Promoted Himself While Doing Drug Deals
Back when Jelly Roll was a naughty boy, he was still a very smart cookie. Admittedly, he has come a long way since his bad boy days that found him in jail forty times. He loved to run with the wrong crowd from the time he was young and those times still haunt him to this day. Yet, he has drastically changed his life and achieved all of the goals that he and his wife, Bunnie XO set for themselves. That being said, Jelly has made it his life’s mission to help others and show them that they can achieve so much more than they believe.
However, when he was back in his drug dealing days, Jelly was quite smart and savvy. According to FOX News, he used to bring his own mix tapes to his drug deals. He spoke to CBS Sunday Morning and admitted it was like having a business card. Jelly noted: “Even my drug dealing, to me, was always a means to music.” When he would do his deals, he made sure that he always had a tape on him: “I’m just like, ‘Yo. Here’s a sack of weed. Here’s a gram of coke. Here’s a mixtape … I rap too.’ It was like my business card.”
Admittedly, this was the life he came from as his dad was a bookie and his mother was an addict. For Jelly, he only knew this life. However, times have changed and so has he. He is raising his daughter, Bailee along with his wife, Bunnie XO. There is also his son, Noah who he has joint custody of so he is the true epitome of a family man. Yet, he has found true success and that makes sense since he was always business savvy.
A Big Year Ahead
For Jelly Roll, 2024 is a huge year for him. He has promised a lot of music for his fans coming this year. There will also be shows starting with Crash My Playa at the end of January in Mexico. Then, he has Stagecoach at the end of April in California followed by Daytona in May. He will also be doing some shows with Morgan Wallen over the summer so this is going to be a fun and fruitful year plus the GRAMMY Awards. Anything can and will happen and it all started with some mix tapes.
