Joe Don Rooney of Rascal Flatts was part of one of the most successful music acts around. However, even with success, personal demons often come knocking. In Rooney’s case, he recently celebrated a major win in his personal life. So, what did he tell his fans?
Rascal Flatts Were One Of The Biggest Names In Music
Despite officially disbanding in 2021, Rascal Flatts was one of the biggest names in music for more than two decades. They had numerous hits to their name over the course of their career and amassed millions of fans during that time. Originally, the band planned to have an official farewell tour. However, because of the global pandemic, that never came to fruition, and they disbanded without officially playing that tour.
Since then, there have been a lot of rumors about whether or not the band would get back together. Naturally, with as many fans as they’ve made throughout their career, it’s safe to say that a lot of people would love nothing more than to see them get back in the studio and out on tour.
Many Fans Are Left Wondering What Went Wrong
Whenever a major, headlining band goes their separate ways, fans are always left scratching their heads. What went wrong is always a big topic of conversation. Of course, since officially calling it quits, Rascal Flatts fans have had a lot of time to wonder what went wrong between Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus, and Joe Don Rooney.
Previously, LeVox said that Rooney quitting the band was essentially the catalyst for the split. However, the way DeMarcus sees it, he shared a different take recently on Savannah Chrisley’s Unlocked podcast. According to DeMarcus, Rooney quitting the band isn’t the sole factor for the split, because each member went through that at some point over the last two decades. He also went on to say that everyone was “frustrated.” So, it seems that frustration is what led to LeVox trying to pin the blame solely on Rooney.
Joe Don Rooney Shares Major Milestone
Since the Rascal Flatts split, fans still keep tabs on the band members, largely in hopes of a reunion announcement. According to the latest updates from Joe Don Rooney, he recently celebrated 28 months of sobriety on January 13. This is indeed a huge win for Rooney, who struggled with alcohol for years.
How are y’all feeling today??
I’m having a wonderful morning and I think today is going to be a great day.
“One day at a time.”
That’s the AA way. And not only for alcoholics like myself – but the steps and the guard rails of the AA way, can be beneficial to anyone seeking to…— JDR (@JoeDonRooney) January 13, 2024
The former Rascal Flatts guitarist was previously charged with a DUI after crashing his car into a tree. He pled guilty to the DUI in September 2021, while his marriage was also crumbling. So, this was a perfect storm of events that finally led Joe Don Rooney to make some big changes.
According to Rooney, he is now taking things “one day at a time”. The good news is, whatever he is doing seems to be working wonders for him.
