Willie Nelson has had a lot of firsts. He also set a lot of records. The Red-Headed Stranger has a new record to add to his long list of them. The “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys” singer is now recognized as the oldest recording and touring musician of all time.
How Old Is Willie Nelson?
Willie Nelson was born April 29, 1933. That makes him 90 years old. He will be 91 this spring, in just a few short months.
Known both as a talented singer and both a prolific and poetic songwriter, Willie’s career has spanned over 60 years. The “Always On My Mind” singer has been a part of country music since the 1960s. Despite his age, he is still active in the country music scene.

Willie Nelson Is Still Recording Country Music
On average, Nelson puts out a new album every two years. His music is still sought-after and loved by fans and critics alike. The album he released in 2022, A Beautiful Time, won the Grammy for Best Country Album.
His latest album, Bluegrass, has been nominated for a Grammy this year. Fans of Willie Nelson will be tuning in to see if the “Just To Satisfy You” will win again. The Grammy’s will be broadcasted on Sunday, February 4.
Willie Nelson Is Almost Always On The Road
Willie Nelson is still actively touring. Even though he is almost 91 years old, the “On The Road Again” singer is still playing dozens of shows each and every year. He shows no signs of slowing down.
Although his show may not be what they used to be, Willie Nelson’s vocals have not changed much through the years. Yes, fans may watch him sing as he sits from a chair, but Willie Nelson is still out there. He is still singing for his fans.
No Membership Required
What does it take to have such longevity in country music? Thankfully, it isn’t a membership to the Grand Ole Opry. Willie Nelson has not been a member since the late 1960s. It appears he was too busy touring to play the necessary dates required for membership in the Grand Ole Opry.
What it does take is talent, a strong work ethic and a loyal fan base. Willie has all three. Even at 90 years old, he is still out and, depending on the country music singer, he is out there more than the younger ones.
