Cody Johnson got a thrill of a lifetime last Friday night, February 2, 2023. While performing on stage in Nashville, he welcomed Brooks & Dunn to the stage. In addition to welcoming one of the greatest country duos of all time to join him on stage, Cody Johnson was able to sing with the megastars. Together, Johnson and Brooks & Dunn sang “Long Live Country Music.”
The Idea For “Long Live Country Music”
Cody Johnson came clean about the origins of “Long Live Country Music.” The “On My Way To You” singer said the idea was born due to an acceptance speech he gave after winning an award. In this acceptance speech, Johnson stated “Long Live Country Music” and the rest is history.
“Long Live Country Music” was co-written by Trent Willmon. Its lyrics pay homage to the Grand Ole Opry and rodeos. The song references “Strawberry Wine,” one of Deana Carter’ biggest hits. It also mentions one of country music’s greatest female voices of all time, the talented Patsy Cline.
Making It A Duet
There were some conversations as to exactly how “Long Live Country Music” should be produced. It was finally decided it would be a duet. This duet is with Cody Johnson and Brooks & Dunn. It appears on Johnson’s album, “Leather.”
Currently, there are 12 songs on Cody Johnson’s album, “Leather.” That will be changing in the near future. Johnson is planning to make it an extended album. In order to do this, he will be doubling its size by adding 12 more songs.

The Honky Tonk And Cowboy Connections
Cody Johnson loves the honky tonk and cowboy connections found in “Long Live Country Music.” He started his career singing in the honky tonks and bars. He also considers himself to be a cowboy.
Brooks & Dunn also got their musical start making the rounds in honky tonks and bars. They are also known as cowboys. This is one of the many reasons Cody Johnson thought Brooks & Dunn would be perfect for “Long Live Country Music.”
Another reason Brooks & Dunn were selected for this song is the fact Cody Johnson is such a huge fan of theirs. He considers them to be one of the reasons he made the choice to be a country music singer. Brooks & Dunn are also one of the reasons Johnson continues on this career path.
