The late Toby Keith’s son was the first member of the country megastar’s family to speak out about the death of his father. Stelen Keith Covel posted on Instagram, expressing his feelings about Toby Keith. This happened only three days after the “How Do You Like Me Now?” singer’s death.
Stelen Keith Covel’s Instagram Post
No one can doubt the raw emotions and heart-breaking grief of Toby Keith’s only son, Stelen Covel, after reading the Instagram post he wrote about his father. Calling his father his “guiding star,” “biggest champion,” “coach” and “hero,” the son of the “American Made” singer went on about the career of the country music superstar.
Covel called Toby Keith a “true titan of your industry.” He said Keith’s “impact is forever stamped on the world.” Stelen Covel went on to say, despite Keith’s impact on the world, “…not one person knew you the way I did.” He continued with “You are a man whose strength, prowess, and talent could only be trumped by his ability to be a father and husband.”
Toby Keith’s Sudden And Untimely Death
Toby Keith passed away, Monday, February 5, 2024. He was at home in Oklahoma, surrounded by his family, when he died in his sleep. The world woke to this sudden death the next morning after Keith’s family posted this sad news on social media.
Toby Keith had been battling stomach cancer. Even after going through chemotherapy, radiation and at least one surgery, the “Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue” singer lost the battle for his life. Despite his health issues over the past few years, the news of his death was still unexpected.
Social Media Users Mourn The Loss Of Toby Keith
Country music stars and country music fans alike took to social media, expressing their sadness over the loss of Toby Keith. Hundreds of thousands, possibly millions, of posts all conveyed the shared loss of this great American treasure.
As touching as those posts were, none compared to the Instagram post by Keith’s son. “You are the strongest man I have ever known. A fighter. An embodiment of the American Spirit,” Stelen Covell wrote. “You were my biggest champion and the guiding light in my darkest times. The best mentor a man could ask for.”

“You truly did it your way, from the starting gates to the finish line, and never apologized for it,” Covell’s post read.
“The only thing I truly ever wanted in life was to make you proud. I promise I will continue to make you proud.”
Stelen Covel ended the post with “…you leave me strength and faith to lean on in the silence that follows. It’s not goodbye forever; it’s just goodbye for now. I love you cowboy.”

It is so sad to hear about Toby. His family and God was always his first priority in life. He was the most patriotic man. I was so honored to meet him back in the 90’s and her treated me and my kids just like we were part of his family. He joked that my daughter and Krystal could have been twins by their spunk alone. Thank you Toby for the great memories you left in my heart. I’m sure you will be watching down on your beautiful family. I will be praying for all of your family during this time.
