Is Dolly Parton mad over Elle King’s drunken tribute to her at the Grand Ole Opry for her 78th birthday? Fans were up in arms over the disrespect King showed to Parton that night. Yet, what was Parton’s perspective of the situation being that the evening was about her? Read on for more details.
Dolly Parton Mad Over Elle King’s Drunken Tribute?
When Elle King took the stage for Dolly Parton’s birthday tribute, it was a big deal. Just to perform at the Grand Ole Opry is an iconic moment but to honor Dolly only heightens it all. Unfortunately, Elle had a little too much to drink that evening. Therefore, her performance of “Marry Me” was filled with curse words and forgotten lyrics. Additionally, Elle was open with the audience, saying she did not remember the words to the song. She also copped to the fact she was hammered. Not only was she deemed disrespectful but cursing was not allowed at the Opry since the performances are broadcast on the radio.
Almost a month after all of this went down, Dolly Parton is speaking up about what transpired that evening. According to Taste of Country, Dolly is very forgiving toward the thirty-four-year-old. She spoke with Extra TV about the whole debacle and had a kind heart when it came to Elle King and her heartbreaking evening.
“Elle is really a great artist. She’s a great girl. She’s been going through a lot of hard things lately. And she just had a little too much to drink. So let’s just forgive that and forget it and move on, ’cause she felt worse than anybody ever could.”
Dolly clearly saw the heart behind the performance and saw that there was a lot more going on aside from just a few too many cocktails. After the situation, Elle went on to postpone four shows and looks to be taking a step back. She was also called out for behavior during New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash. It was believed she had too much to drink that night, as well.
Keeping In Touch
It would make sense that Elle King would have contacted Dolly Parton after what happened to express her apologies. So, did that happen? Dolly never said whether she did or she did not plus Elle has yet to discuss that evening publicly. This may come in time but one person who is not happy is Dolly’s sister, Stella Parton.
I didn’t see nor hear the Grand Ole Opry birthday tribute to my big sister Dolly over the weekend. But some lil girl by the name of Elle King apparently cussed and insulted some of Dolly’s fans by not knowing a song. She did admit to being “ hammered” her word not mine.

Since we’re comparing apples to oranges on here. I’m still stewing and thinking bout how any lil spoiled brat with an opportunity to sing on the Opry to pay tribute to a legendary songwriter like Dolly Parton would just piss on the star circle on the stage. Taylor Swift wouldn’t.

At least Dolly is being kind and understanding but hopefully, she and Elle King can have a sit down and hug it all out. Would you forgive Elle or do you think what she did was unforgivable? Let us know in the comments below.
