The Grand Ole Opry responds to backlash after the performance of “9 to 5” Elle King. She shouted also expletives during Dolly Parton Tribute. “We deeply regret and apologize of the language that was used,” stated The Grand Ole Opry on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Elle King Sparked Outrage

When she took stage at the Ryman Auditorium, on Friday, January 19, Elle openly admitted to being drunk. She stated she was “hammered” at the “Opry Goes Dolly” event. Her performance, in which attendees have dubbed “disrespectful,” prompted the Grand Ole Opry to respond to the backlash.

Elle Openly Admits To Being “Hammered”

Elle King, 34, came under fire after appearing and admittedly being drunk during her performance at the event. The event was to celebrate Dolly Parton, now 78. Elle performed an amazing cover of Dolly’s “9 to 5,” then went into a cover of “Marry Me.” She forgot the lyrics to “Marry Me,” and began spouting expletives while bantering with the crowd.

“Don’t tell Dolly, holy sh*t. I swear to God if you guys tell Dolly…” Elle said to the crowd. She then shared she doesn’t know the lyrics to the song. She followed with a question for the audience, “Everyone’s like holy sh*t we bought tickets for this sh*t. Holy sh*t, I’m not even gonna f****** lie, y’all bought tickets for this sh*t?”

Elle, who’s birth name is Tanner Elle Schneider, followed with, “You ain’t getting your money back.” She then stated, “I’ll tell you one thing more: ‘Hi, my name is Elle King and I’m f****** hammered.”

Elle King’s background vocalist shared in the microphone, “We are celebrating Dolly Parton’s birthday the good ole fashioned way, We’re celebrating with the bottle.”

Backlash After Disrespectful Performance At The Ryman

Soon after her performance, many of the concertgoers flooded social media with videos of Elle’s “hammered” performance. Very quickly, the videos went viral and made major headlines.

One fan posted a clip on TikTok with the caption, “Elle King disrespected the Ryman and Dolly Parton.” Featured in the clip the fan explained, “I think we just watched the demise of Elle King’s career, and it was Dolly’s birthday tribute show at The Ryman. She said f*** about 15 times prior to this and forgot the words to Dolly’s song she was supposed to sing. At the end of the day they shut the curtain on her, ended the variety show and said Goodnight.”

Several other fans went on saying Elle King should never be allowed to perform on the Opry’s sacred stage ever again. One fan said, “Oh Elle King is never getting invited back to the Opry” and another “Elle King did one of the most disrespectful thins you can do to that stage.”

The Grand Ole Opry Responds To Backlash

An attendee named Judas Belmont, took to X to express his disappointment in Elle’s performance, especially since it was their first time visiting the Grand Ole Opry.

“Elle King ruined the night with her horrible, drunk, and profane performance. Dolly Parton would’ve been mortified. For our first time at The Opry, it was a shame we all had to witness that,” he wrote. He then added, “It was such a disappointment to spend $300 on tickets for a show where one of the artists ruined an entire night. I mean, it’s The Opry, the greatest country venue in the world. That performance was like a lackluster karaoke performer wasted out of their minds. Awful.”

A representative for The Grand Ole Opry responded and apologized by writing, ” We deeply regret and apologize for the language that was used during last night’s second Opry performance.”
