Famed actor Matthew McConaughey showed off his vocal skills by joining country artist Zach Bryan on a classic ’80s hit. How did the unlikely pair get together? Keep reading for all the details and give the tune a listen.
Hollywood Meets Country Music In Unlikely Pair
Zach Bryan rose to fame through his self-recorded songs while serving in the U.S. Navy. He’s been making waves in the country music scene with his heartfelt ballads and raw storytelling.
Matthew McConaughey gained praise for his breakout role in the 1993 film Dazed and Confused. He’s starred in countless movies since and nabbed a couple of Oscars. It’s no surprise the two-time Academy Award winner and the country star would find common ground.
After all, they are both Southern boys: McConaughey hails from Texas and the “Something in the Orange” singer calls Oklahoma home.
The actor and the musician recently teamed up on a song from the 1980s, but it wasn’t their first collaboration.
“Nine Ball” Video
“Nine Ball” is one of the songs on Zach Bryan’s 2023 EP Boys Of Faith. When it came time to make a music video for the song, his team reached out to the popular actor. Matthew McConaughey eagerly took on the role.
According to People magazine, the video depicts “a gambling addict who primes his young son to become a talented pool player in games he bets on.”
Matthew McConaughey plays the father and actor Tye Sheridan plays the grown-up version of his son.

““You know I like my girls a little bit older,” the actor sang as he approached. The duo sang the next part of the chorus together, “I could use your love tonight.”
The clip appeared to be from when the duo were filming the “Nine Ball” video. Tye Sheridan is also on-hand during the rendition and joined in during the song’s iconic drum break.
