It may not seem like country singer Shania Twain would have much in common with rock legend Jon Bon Jovi. But he gave her a shout-out during a recent magazine cover story, revealing a surprising connection between the two musicians. Keep reading to find out all the details.

Jon Bon Jovi Shouts Out Shania Twain

Bon Jovi frontman Jon Bon Jovi has been in the news a lot lately. The band celebrated its 40th anniversary with a brand new album out this summer. However, the record almost didn’t happen. Jon Bon Jovi privately underwent surgery on his vocal cords in 2022.

The history of the band and his recent medical issues were all explored in the recent Hulu documentary, Thank You, Goodnight. Former bandmate Richie Sambora spoke on camera about his controversial 2013 exit.

After the documentary dropped, Jon Bon Jovi sat down with ABC’s Michael Strahan for an interview. He was also featured in a cover article with PEOPLE magazine. The rocker revealed that the country singer helped him through his vocal surgery.

In fact, he even used the same doctor that she did and had the same procedure. He called her his “spirit sister” over their shared medical issues.

Country Singer Reacts

Jon Bon Jovi hasn’t disclosed the cause of his voice issues. However, Shania Twain’s doctors told her that her vocal damage was likely from Lyme disease caused by a tick bite. “There would’ve been no way for me to ever maintain a career with that damage, and the nerves don’t repair,” she told PEOPLE about what led her to have the open-throat vocal surgery, which was performed while she was awake.

She candidly revealed that she thought her career was over after struggling to sing. However, the surgery worked for her and she just kicked off her third Las Vegas residency.

When asked how she felt about Jon Bon Jovi’s shout-out, she replied, “It is a very special bond because there are very few singers that have ever had this nerve damage.”

She added, “I shared my experience with him — before he took the plunge, I just shared the best I could without influencing him in any way.”

Jon Bon Jovi didn’t reveal if the surgery was successful enough for the band to tour again. Bon Jovi’s new album, Forever, comes out on June 7, 2024.
