Miley Cyrus is opening up about her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, and admits that she got her “narcissism” from him. The two have been estranged for a handful of years since her mother, Tish Cyrus filed for divorce. Now, Miley is sharing her thoughts on her dad and it is both positive and negative. Miley Cyrus Says She Inherited ‘Narcissism’ From Dad, Billy Ray
Growing up, Miley Cyrus was very close with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus. He even played her dad on Hannah Montana so they seemed like two peas in a pod. She went on to follow in his musical footsteps as he was a country superstar heartthrob with “Achy Breaky Heart.” Unfortunately, in 2022, her mother, Tish Cyrus, filed for divorce for the third time. It was necessary but not easy for the couple of three decades. What added insult to injury was that Billy Ray started a romantic relationship with Firerose, whom he had known for a decade, that same summer.
He then proposed to her and they tied the knot the following year. Though Tish Cyrus moved on with Prison Break star Dominic Purcell, Miley was seemingly unbothered. It was an issue that her dad was with Firerose that appeared to hit her hard. Was it the fact that she was in her early thirties or did Billy Ray move on too soon? That was unclear but when Miley accepted her first Grammy, she did not thank her dad. Now, Billy Ray has filed for divorce, or an annulment, and Miley is speaking out about him.
According to People, Miley Cyrus was a guest on David Letterman’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction where she dished on her parents. She started with what he gave her, good and bad:
“He has a relationship and a foot on the ground to the real and to nature and he always did, even when he was super famous. I’m grateful for being able to watch him ahead of me. He’s almost given me this map. And there’s a map of what to do and what not to do, and he’s guided me on both. I also inherited the narcissism from my father.”
She does go on to note that she knows she would not be where she is in her career without her father. However, her mother is wholeheartedly her “hero.”
Love For Tish
Despite saying that she would not be who she is without Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley Cyrus explained that her mother raised her:
“So I think a lot of his perspective on reality and on life, I’ve inherited from him, more so than the way that I was raised — which really, my mom raised me. Honestly, my mom is my hero.”
Even though Miley and Tish Cyrus have been thick as thieves, it did come out that Dominic Purcell was dating Noah Cyrus first. She is Tish and Billy Ray’s youngest daughter. This allegedly caused some dissension when Miley learned the truth but they worked it out and things are fine.
