Maren Morris is celebrating her bisexuality on her new EP, Intermission, which was released on Friday, August 2nd. The musician has launched herself into a new genre while exploring a different aspect of her life. She has undergone a huge transformation and she is honoring that for the first time with five incredible songs. So, how is she detailing this new chapter? Keep reading for more on what Maren has to say.
Maren Morris Celebrates Bisexuality On New Album
This last year has been unlike any other for Maren Morris. She dismissed country music but then explained that she wanted to distance herself from some of the values that genre held. More so, she did not want to be pigeonholed into one style of music and felt the need to branch out which would soon reflect a big evolution. By year’s end, Maren filed for divorce from her husband, Ryan Hurd, with whom she has a son, Hayes. She then revealed that she was bisexual as she was writing her new album.
This album is raw and real. Maren is leaving nothing untouched and that includes her bisexuality which she is extremely proud of. She has always been a supporter of the LGBTQ+ community prior to coming out. In 2023, she was presented with the GLAAD’s Excellence in Media Award. Now, according to The Sun, her new EP celebrates her bisexuality and her experience as a bisexual woman. The single is called “Push Me Over” and it is about Maren’s first date with a female.
She worked on “Push Me Over” with Muna and they helped her after her first same-sex date:
I remember I had been on a date with this girl, and the date went amazing, but I had so many questions for Muna the next day. I truly felt like a student and I was with, like, the Professors of Gay. They were obviously so supportive, and it made this the easiest song to write. It just puts a pep in my step and I feel like I could have only written it with them.
In the single, Maren talks about being uncertain and new to something and a situation. She details the newness behind meeting a woman that she is interested in and needing them to lead as this is unchartered waters:
Necklace rests just so, on your collarbone / Makes me want to know / How your perfume smells on me later / Can you take control? Show me where to go / Ain’t been here before / Don’t know what it is, but I like the flavor.
Fan Reaction
After Maren Morris gave a sneak peek of “Push Me Over” to followers and fans on her social media, she immediately received a positive response. People clamored to her comment section to tell her how much they loved the new single:
- ready to watch you crush the charts with this one
- i have never been more ready for a song
- Already obsessed with this song!!!
- I’ve had this stuck in my head, singing it at work.. can’t wait to endlessly play it on repeat.
So, if this feedback is any indication, it was an amazing idea for her to honor and celebrate her truth. More so, being transparent is definitely going to pay off in a big way and Intermission will be a success story for Maren.
