Beyoncé‘s first-ever country album “Cowboy Carter” has received tons of award nominations. But, there’s one award show that the album didn’t get picked for, and that is causing a major stir.
Cowboy Carter‘s CMA Snub
The list of nominees for the 2024 Country Music Awards was just announced and not one of the categories has an entry for Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter”.
From Best Album to Best Female Artist, Beyoncé isn’t mentioned at all. This album was the first time that she could qualify for a Country Music Award, and despite being certified platinum, it didn’t happen.
She hasn’t publicly addressed the snub. Neither has CMA. But, the rest of the world has and they are not happy.
Fans Rage At The CMAs
The beehive has been fuming at the news that Beyoncé didn’t receive a nomination for the CMA awards. Most of them are convinced that race had to do with it. Other fans feel like Beyonce just missed the mark and didn’t do a good country album.
In a Reddit thread, Beyoncé fans called out the CMAs, accusing them of racism and intentionally snubbing her from the nominees list. Here are a few of the comments:
- “You know if they gave credit to Beyoncé that would open the door for so many more black creatives. That’s why they won’t do it.”
- “They simply refuse to acknowledge A BLACK WOMAN who has the biggest Country Album of the year and a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100!”
- “It’s giving a weird mix of jealously and racism.”
One of the only black artists who were nominated this year is Shaboozey, whose hit single “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has been #1 on the charts for weeks.
After Beyoncé got snubbed, he took to social media. He posted a thank you to CMAs for his nominations, but he also stood up for Beyoncé. He applauded her for “opening the doors” for him in the country music scene.
Beyoncé And CMA’s Dramatic History
This isn’t the first feud that has happened between Beyoncé and the CMAs. The music artist actually performed at the 2016 CMA Awards with The Chicks, who were known as The Dixie Chicks At the time.
Both artists were speaking up about race and equality at the time of their performance. Furious, countless country music fans criticized the award show and argued that neither one of them should have been on stage.
Instead of defending the artists, the CMAs deleted any trace of their duet on their website. The award show didn’t give an explanation as to why they took it down.
Since then, Beyoncé hasn’t performed or attended the ceremony since. Neither have The Chicks.
Do you think that Beyoncé was intentionally snubbed? Will you be tuning in to watch the 2024 CMA Awards? Let us know all of your thoughts in the comments below.
