Country Superstar’s Busy September: Emmy Awards & SNL
Jelly Roll is extremely in demand right now. He has a new album coming out next month. The rapper-turned-country-singer took the stage at the Emmy Awards earlier this month to perform. He sang his hit song, “I Am Not Okay” during the Emmys In Memoriam segment that honors actors the industry lost in the last year.
He will make his debut on Saturday Night Live as the musical guest on the Season 50 premiere on Saturday, September 28. Fans can also see Jelly Roll make his acting debut on the next episode of Tulsa King.
Jelly Roll Reveals How Tulsa King Cameo Happened
Jelly Roll is a huge fan of the Paramount+ show Tulsa King. He spoke to USA TODAY about his upcoming cameo. He revealed that he binge-watched the first season of the mob drama. Tulsa King stars Sylvester Stallone as mafia boss Dwight “The General” Manfredi.
The show’s executive producer told the outlet, “Jelly Roll’s schedule is crazy busy, but he’s a major fan and we found this window. It all came together very quickly.” The cameo was filmed when the singer’s Beautifully Broken Tour passed through Atlanta where the show is filmed.
According to USA TODAY, Sylvester Stallone’s character throws a party at a club that also has a recording studio. Jelly Roll appears as himself and has a brief interaction with the mob boss on his way to the recording studio.
“Lucky for me, Dwight and Stallone are two different guys. Sly knew my name,” Jelly Roll said about co-starring with the iconic Rocky actor. The singer credited Sylvester Stallone’s daughter, Sistine, for making the cameo happen. “I owe Sistine forever for getting me to be part of my favorite show,” he gushed.
Jelly Roll also performs “I Am Not Okay,” which he thought was perfect for the show. “There’s so much wild (stuff) going on in ‘Tulsa King,’ so much crossing out happening,” he explained.
He ended the interview by saying he would “do anything” to return to the show for another appearance.
Season 2 of Tulsa King premiered on Paramount+ on Sunday, September 15. New episodes drop every Sunday. Viewers can catch Jelly Roll on the episode airing September 22.
