Jason Aldean recently released his music video for “Try That In A Small Town.” There has been uproar as some people feel like it is meant in a way Jason didn’t mean it at all. Aldean explained that the song is simply about how people in a small town stick up for each other.
Jason Responds To Video Backlash
Jason Aldean responded to the backlash from his music video on his Instagram Story recently. The video was actually recorded in front of the Maury County Courthouse in Columbia, Tennessee. This is where 18-year-old African-American Henry Choate was lynched in 1927. He was accused of attacking a white girl and was then drug through the streets of the town. Jason didn’t even pick where to film the video, though.
You can see Jason’s apology below. This song to him is simply about how you take care of your neighbors in a small town. The way that they all look out for one another. It isn’t meant to be racist at all according to Jason Aldean.
CMT Blasted For Removing Video From Playlist
Fans of Jason Aldean are not happy with CMT for removing the video from their playlist. Fox News shared that fans are calling it “shameful” that they won’t play the video. Check out the music video yourself below.
On Monday, CMT pulled the video for this song from their lineup. One lyric says, “Yeah, ya think you’re tough? Well, try that in a small town, see how far ya make it down the road. Around here, we take care of our own, you cross that line, it won’t take long for you to find out, I recommend you don’t.” Fans are pretty upset that they took it off the air, though.
ABC went ahead and aired the song on their CMA Fest, but it didn’t show the music video. It just had Jason on the stage performing the song.
Donald Trump Jr. even went to Twitter to share his thoughts on the music video. Here is what he had to say:
How on earth is this video controversial? Why would @cmt take it down? Support @Jason_Aldean and other artists who have the guts to tell the truth… watch it, download it, and push back against the bs. pic.twitter.com/59YaeHRM5d

Other fans are speaking out in defense of Jason as well. Here is what some had to say:
- CMT pulled Jason Aldean’s new song for being “racist” Why do they assume his lyrics have anything to do with black people though??
- This is the Jason Aldean video that CMT pulled for being “too controversial.” This song represents me and millions of others. CMT pulled a Bud Light and we won’t forget.
- Country Music television (CMT) cancels a Jason Aldean song that’s speaks truth, telling rioters to ‘Try That in a Small Town’. Probably 90% of country music listeners are conservative leaning. Do they think they’re magically getting leftists to listen to their music now?
