Toby Keith is talking about weed, y’all. He’s sung about it but let’s see what he has to say about the old Mary Jane.
Let’s Talk About Toby
Toby Keith shot to fame in 1993 with his single “Should’ve Been A Cowboy”, after a flight attendant from his trip gave his demo tape to her record label buddy. His single ended up getting three million plays and became the most-played country song of the 90s. His tour buddies have included Gretchen Wilson, Blake Shelton, Terri Clark, and Kelli Pickler, and so many more. He and his wife, Tricia Lucus, married in 1984, before he was famous, and have three children and four grandchildren together. It’s so amazing they have stayed together through the chaos of celebrity. Good for them!
Who Else Smokes the Dope?
Toby Keith, now 60 years old, isn’t the first celebrity to try the Devil’s Lettuce, nor will he be the last. Plenty of other actors and singers have partaken, although not all have a good experience, like country star Maren Morris. The most well-known pot connoisseur has got to be good ole Willie Nelson right? He is still singing at 90 years old! Mr. Nelson is well known for his baits and even has his own cannabis line, so he’s pretty experienced with smoking and how it affects him.

So did Toby have a good or bad experience? Well, according to Whiskey Riff’s website, many years ago Toby sat down with legendary country artist Willie Nelson after a show and, as he told Whiskey Riff, “Willie’s got that real chronic, medicinal stuff. I’ve never smoked much pot in my life, it’s not my high… we set down and he starts rolling one up, so when in Rome, you know? We burn one, and I couldn’t even function. It was like, the most hardcore weed that I’d ever had, and I’d only hit it like three or four times, and unlike Bill Clinton I did inhale.”
Oh boy. Well if you’ve never smoked weed before, you probably shouldn’t hit the strong stuff. You probably also shouldn’t inhale (that Bill zinger was a good one Toby).

Will Toby Keep Rolling?
So while Toby had a pretty bad experience way back when with marijuana, he didn’t continue to use it. He did make two songs from the experience, and continues to perform despite his health obstacles. So no, I don’t think Toby Keith will continue rolling.
