Conway Twitty’s Tennessee mansion used to be a tourist attraction. Now ‘Twitty City’ is at risk after a tornado ripped through it. Keep reading for the latest news.
Conway Twitty’s Untimely Death
Conway Twitty is considered one of the biggest legends in country music. But he actually got his start in rock n roll. He broke into the music industry in the rockabilly scene of the 1950s.
He transitioned to country music in 1965. His career took off after his 1970 hit “Hello Darlin.'” Throughout his career, Conway Twitty shared the stage with Loretta Lynn. The due recorded over ten duets together, including “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man.”
The country music star unexpectedly passed away in 1993 while on tour. American Songwriter recalls that Conway Twitty collapsed on his tour bus and passed away the next day from an abdominal aneurysm.
Coincidentally, Loretta Lynn was at the same hospital and was able to see her longtime friend before his death.
‘Twitty City’ Is No More
Before Dollywood, there was Twitty City. In 1982, Conway Twitty’s home in Henderson, Tennessee, became a popular tourist stop. The 33-acre property was more than just a home. It was an entire entertainment complex featuring a museum, a gift shop, and an auditorium.

Sadly, the complex was auctioned off after Conway Twitty’s death. His death led to years of lawsuits and fighting among his third wife and his four children from his previous marriages.
Trinity Broadcasting Network purchased the property in 1994.
Conway Twitty’s Mansion Severely Damaged In Storm
The Henderson, Tennessee, area was hit by a huge storm shortly before Christmas. An ER-2 tornado tore through the area, damaging part of Twitty’s former home.
According to real estate developer and televangelist Frank Amedia, the home was already in bad shape before the tornado heavily damaged the mansion’s roof.
Amedia recently proposed to the town his plan to tear down the country singer’s former home to build an assisted living facility.

According to the Hendersonville Standard, the real estate developer wants to honor the legend with a Conway Twitty museum full of memorabilia.
As of publication, there aren’t any concrete plans to demolish Conway Twitty’s former home or build a new museum. The plan is still pending.
